Tarqiate Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Western Tianshan. The Tarqiate Fm was amed by Wang Jingbin in 1982. The type section is at near Tarqiate residential area south of Sitai, Jinghe County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) (Wang Jingbin, 982, 1985). Upper formation (5 of 6) of Kiaketi Gr).
Synonym: (塔尔恰特组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Tarqiate Fm consists of argillaceous siltstone with minor fine-grained sandstone and limestone. In the northern slope of Keokirqin Mountains, the formation consists of green-gray fine-laminated argillaceous siltstone interbedded with limestone and sandstone thin layers or lenses. In the Guozigou area, south of Sayram Lake, the formation is composed of single lithological unit of green-gray or purple red siltstone with fine lamination and ripples mark. The formation is 34-200 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation is unconformable onto the underlying Kayingdi Fm
Upper contact
It is conformably or unconformably overlain by the Talisayi Fm (upper tillite).
Regional extent
Western Tianshan. The Tarqiate Fm is widely developed from Guozigou, Huocheng County and south of Sayram Lake in west, and along the northern slope of Kokirqin, Tarqiate and Kokirqin Guozigou, Santai in east.

Abundant microplants include Trematosphaeridium holtedahlii, Laminarites sp., Favososphaeridium sp., Taeniatum crassum, Polyporata sp. etc.
